2019 Backbone Press Chapbook Competition

We are currently accepting submissions to our 2nd annual Backbone Press Chapbook Contest. The winner will receive publication, $250 prize, and funding assistance for a reading.

Guidelines: Using our submission form, please submit manuscripts of 16-25 pages of poetry in any form or style. Your name must not appear anywhere on the manuscript. Simultaneous submissions are okay but, please inform us if your manuscript is accepted elsewhere. All submissions must include a $15.00 entry fee payable via the form. Manuscripts should include a title page, table of contents, and acknowledgments page.  The final judge is poet & professor, Geffrey Davis. The deadline is March 1, 2020.

Our publications are necessary bridges, particularly in terms of generational, gender, and racial lines. In addition to informing, they engage us in broader cultural conversations. Our authors are emerging & established poets. Works that appear in our chapbooks have been published in Prairie Schooner, Poetry Magazine, Poets.org, Tupelo Quarterly, Chicago Quarterly and elsewhere. Additionally, several of our authors have won national book awards, including: The APR Honickman Book Award and The Sexton Prize for Poetry.

Best of Luck!

The Backbone Press Chapbook Competition is funded, in part, by the Durham Arts Council.
